Moon and Jupiter

I was trying to capture some good Moon pictures, but managed to see Jupiter come up after the Moon had risen. They weren't close enough to get them both together in the telescope in good detail, so I got as close as I could and have them both in the picture. All of these were taken with a Nikon D90. The first set below was taken through my Orion 4.5" scope. Enjoy.

The pictures below were taken through a Celestron FirstScope.

  1. Great shots again Colin, did you get out last night, Jupiter would have risen first and have been closer to the Moon

  2. Thanks Bob. I still can't get them as clear as you can for some reason. Some night, I'd like to get out with you and see how you set up and see where I can improve things. Anyway, the Moon still wasn't visible at 1:00 this morning, so I went to bed. The previous night, I saw the Moon first, then Jupiter after a while. I hope it's a little bit clear tonight so I can maybe try to catch them again. We tried collimating my scope but can't seem to get it quite right though.

  3. Good luck with the Moon tonight, I'll have to have you over to show you what I do, a lot as to do with live view and the x10 on the lcd screen, then I take numerous images after adjusting the focus over and over again hoping to get clear tight focus. The collimation thing I have a tool I put in the eyepiece holder then shine a flashlight down the tube and adjust the 3 screws, till the secondary and primary crosshairs match up.

  4. That'd be great to go through some things with you now that I have all of the components. Dad's going to try to collimate it tonight. He used his laser, but we found it was way out for some reason. May have to have you try that tool of yours. Thanks.
